Neck Lift for Men Procedure
A facelift is often done in conjunction with a neck lift to completely revitalize these important areas, and create a more youthful yet still natural-looking appearance. Dr. Martini understands the fine art of eliminating signs of aging while avoiding a “fake” or “stretched” look, and takes great care to ensure that you will receive the look you desire. Together, through consultation and planning that takes into account all of your concerns and questions, you will design the personalized procedure that aligns with your vision for a better quality of life.
Neck Lift Preparation
There are a few things you can keep in mind in order to reduce scarring, shorten your recovery time, and decrease your chances of complications. Discontinue using aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, Saint John’s wort, and Vitamin E for one week before and a few days after your procedure. These act as blood thinners and could cause problems with clotting. Stop smoking and drinking alcohol in excess well in advance of your neck lift and for one week following surgery. Be sure to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your procedure, as remaining well-hydrated will help you to recover more quickly.
To keep your recovery as easy and comfortable as possible, be sure to follow these guidelines:
- Arrange for someone to take you home and take care of you for at least the first 24 hours.
- Fill your prescriptions prior to surgery.
- Place prescriptions within easy reach of where you will be resting.
- Keep handy plenty of pillows or a bed wedge in a nearby location so that you can keep your head elevated.
- Consider allowing your hair to grow out if it is short in order to better hide scars after surgery.
Neck Lift for Men Recovery
It is common after surgery to experience bruising, swelling, tenderness, and the feeling of tightness for one to two weeks. A compression bandage is commonly worn during the initial healing stage to help keep swelling at a minimum and ensure that tissues can properly heal. Clothing should be kept loose around the neck so as not to disturb the area as well.
Many patients experience only mild to moderate pain with men’s neck lift surgery, and Dr. Martini will prescribe pain killers in order to lessen any discomfort you may feel. You may also benefit from the use of a cold compress on certain areas of your neck to reduce swelling further. Be sure to keep your head elevated after surgery when you lie down to rest or sleep. Initially, avoid as much activity as possible. Try to plan to be out of work for a minimum of the first two weeks so that you can focus on self-care. Typically, recovery can take up to four weeks, although it varies by patient; some people are fine returning to their regular work schedule after just a couple of weeks.
Scars are generally well-hidden behind the ears and under the chin, and will fade even more over time until they are often unnoticeable. Special make-up can also help to hide any scars as they continue to age and become less visible. Be sure to notify us if you experience anything unusual such as sudden severe pain, and stay on top of your follow-up visits so that our expert staff can continue to keep you as comfortable and informed as possible.
