As the technology has advanced, Dr. Martini’s techniques have matured and been refined for the best possible results. Utilizing an artistic approach to his fat transfers, he strives to achieve the most natural look for each patient. Dr. Martini frequently includes fat grafting as a complement to facelift and eyelid surgery procedures in both initial rejuvenation surgery and revisions of previous work performed elsewhere.
“Fat transfers give a more natural look to rejuvenation. It can fill in hollows such as in the temples and under the eyes, or to sunken jawlines or cheeks. It also minimizes nasolabial folds and jowls, in addition to restoring youthful lips,” Dr. Martini explains. “It restores volume and the soft, subtle shape of a youth.” Whether it is aging or weight loss that has caused your face to appear sunken or develop wrinkles and folds, fat injection may be the right solution for a healthier, brighter look.
Fat Transfer Procedure
Dr. Martini explains the science behind the procedure: “It is believed that the stem cells in the adipose (fat) tissue secrete growth hormone-like substances and factors which build collagen to smooth and firm the overlying skin. My full face fat rejuvenation addresses all areas of the face with volume loss for a softening of the features of aging and enhancement of the overlying skin.” Fat transfers are minimally invasive procedures and are often preferred instead of a facelift by those who want to avoid the downtime associated with surgery or who have known allergies to alternative facial injectable fillers.
These innovative fat transfer techniques can be a stand-alone procedure or performed in combination with a facelift and eyelid surgery. Dr. Martini will thoroughly study your facial anatomy and listen in-depth to your expectations and desires to design the personalized procedure that is right for your unique anatomy.
Fat Transfer Consultation and Preparation
There are a few things you can keep in mind in order to shorten your recovery time and decrease your chances of complications. Discontinue using aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, Saint John’s wort, and Vitamin E for one week before and a few days after your procedure. These act as blood thinners and could cause problems with clotting. Stop smoking and drinking alcohol in excess well in advance of your fat transfer and for one week following the procedure. Be sure to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your fat transfer, as remaining well-hydrated will help you to recover more quickly. You will be given a full set of preparation and recovery instructions prior to your surgery to keep you informed and allow for a smooth recovery.
Fat Transfer Recovery
Facial fat transfers are typically done using a specialized needle so that they are minimally invasive. However, since you are only under topical anesthesia typically, you should expect minimal downtime with minor swelling and bruising that should subside within a day or two. Generally, most patients are able to return to their normal activities that same week. You should see your full end results within about three months of your procedure. If you have undergone fat transfer in conjunction with facial surgery such as a facelift or eyelid surgery, it is important to follow the full recovery instructions. Be sure to keep up with your follow-up visits, as we are here to help make this process a positive experience for you from start to finish.
