Brow Lift in Wilmington and Dover, DE
Located in Elkton, MD and Dover, DE, and serving the residents of Maryland, and Wilmington and Newark, Delaware, Replenish Cosmetic Surgery Institute performs brow lifts for those who desire plastic surgery.
Increasing numbers of men and women are seeking out brow lift surgery to achieve a more vibrant and youthful appearance. Deep furrows on the forehead, frown lines over the eyes, and excess skin over the eyes are all conditions that can make you look older than you’d like. Whether it is age or heredity that causes these issues, a brow lift can give you a more rested and revitalized appearance.
A brow lift consists of a set of procedures that can help to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles around the brow and lower forehead area, resulting in eyebrows that rest in a higher position for a more naturally youthful appearance. Incisions hidden in the hairline reposition eyebrows back to the proper place at or above the brow bone. The same procedure may also be used to smooth the furrows in the lower forehead as well as reduce the drooping skin above the eyes and hooding on the side of the eyes. Dr. Martini takes great care to artfully sculpt an eyebrow shape to fit your unique facial features and aesthetic expectations. This results in eyes that appear more open, more rested, and younger overall.
When discussing whether eyelid surgery should also be selected, Dr. Martini explains, “A patient might not even need a blepharoplasty. It might even be harmful if it’s overly aggressive or used as a substitute for a brow lift. Sometimes a brow lift is more aesthetically pleasing and is what the patient actually needs. Other times, patients benefit from my quick recovery facelift because they really need the cheeks to support the lower lids.”
For these reasons, Dr. Martini stresses the importance of scheduling a consultation so that he can recommend the least invasive procedure that will produce the biggest improvements and meet your expectations. There are a number of different surgical options to help tailor your procedure to your specific needs, facial shape, age, and end goals. Together, we will select the technique that will provide the best possible results for your personal desires.
Brow Lift Procedure
The mid-scalp, or hairline life technique, is commonly recommended for people with high hairlines or high foreheads. With this method, the incision is made at the junction of the forehead skin and the hairline and runs over the top of the head from side to side. In this way, raising the hairline any higher is avoided while still elevating the brow area.
The lateral brow lift focuses on improving the lack skin and crow’s feet around the outer sides of the eyebrows and eyes. The incisions are placed behind the hairline at the temples, and excess skin is trimmed. Upon completion of the procedure, the incisions are closed, your hair and forehead are washed, and in some cases, a bandage may be applied.
Brow Lift Preparation and Consultation
You should be very open, providing us with your medical history, drug allergies, list of any previous surgeries or biopsies, medications, diet pills, vitamins, herbs, and supplements that you are taking. Even if you do not think it is important, your safety is our utmost concern, and we are here to get to know your body and your lifestyle so that we can improve your overall quality of life and meet your goals. Don’t be afraid to be frank with us about your habits including smoking, the strenuousness of work you perform, your exercise habits, and the importance of getting back to work in a timely manner.
There are a few things you can keep in mind in order to reduce scarring, shorten your recovery time, and decrease your chances of complications. Discontinue using aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, Saint John’s wort, and Vitamin E for one week before and a few days after your procedure. These act as blood thinners and could cause problems with clotting. Stop smoking and drinking alcohol in excess well in advance of your brow lift and for one week following surgery. Be sure to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your procedure, as remaining well-hydrated will help you to recover more quickly.
To keep your recovery as easy and comfortable as possible, be sure to follow these guidelines:
- Arrange for someone to take you home and take care of you for at least the first 24 hours.
- Fill your prescriptions prior to surgery.
- Place prescriptions within easy reach of where you will be resting.
- Keep handy plenty of pillows or a bed wedge in a nearby location so that you can keep your head elevated.
Brow Lift Recovery
While the recovery process varies from person to person, within a day of your surgery you should be able to be up and walking around. Keep your head elevated for several days following the procedure, and apply cold compresses or small ice packs to help reduce swelling and ease discomfort. If you wear contact lenses, you may want to hold off on wearing them until you feel comfortable.
Plan to be out of work for the first week and away from your usual activities. After this initial period, you can gradually return to activities such as exercise and sex. Avoid any high impact activities for about one month, and stay away from saunas as the steam can adversely affect healing. The appearance of bruising will fade gradually, although there may be some bruises that remain for as long as a month following your surgery. You can utilize special camouflage makeup as you heal to conceal the discoloration. The appearance of scars fades nicely over time and should markedly improve over a period of several months after surgery.
After consultation, should you decide to move forward with your brow lift, an appropriate surgery date will be scheduled. You will be given complete preparation and recovery instructions prior to your procedure so you can get ready and know what to expect afterwards. Keep in mind that it is important to attend all follow-up visits, as we are here to help and make this a positive life-changing experience for you.
